What KPH means here
Keystrokes per hour is a rate projected over an hour. TypingNova’s headline KPH uses final correct characters, including matching spaces and required newlines. It does not count every physical key press: Shift, Backspace, and Tab are not characters in the source. You do not need to type for an hour to calculate the rate.
Convert KPH to WPM
A typing word unit contains five characters. There are 60 minutes in an hour, so the conversion factor is 300. Multiply WPM by 300 or divide KPH by 300, keeping the same counting rules for both values.
40 WPM × 300 = 12000 KPH
40 WPM is 12,000 KPH for the same attempt. The conversion does not predict your speed on another kind of material.

Rounding matters: 8,000 KPH is about 26.67 WPM, often rounded to 27. But exactly 27 WPM is 8,100 KPH. Similarly, 10,000 KPH is about 33.33 WPM; exactly 33 WPM is 9,900 KPH.
Gross KPH and correct KPH
Gross KPH, using this site’s entry rules, would use all accepted character entries. Correct KPH uses the characters still correct in the final text. A deleted mistake stays in the entry count but not in the final output. For example, 310 entries in one minute with 300 correct characters remaining gives 18,600 gross KPH and 18,000 correct KPH. - Numeric keypad: digits, decimals, and Enter.
- Full-keyboard numbers: dates, currency symbols, and references.
- Structured records: names, references, amounts, and dates in separate fields.
- Timed alphanumeric rows: mixed text and numbers with separators.
What score should you aim for?
Start with accurate repetition on the same exercise and duration. A hiring threshold belongs to the specific job and provider; there is no universal KPH pass mark here. A high prose rate converted into KPH does not establish keypad or form-entry proficiency.
